Description

An annual herb with four-sided stems and hairy surfaces. The leaves are opposite, the upper leaves are narrowly lanceolate, entire, the middle leaves are oval or long ovate, sparsely serrated, green on the surface, and white pilose on both sides. Flower solitary, or 3 peanuts with one leaf axillary; calyx green, 5-lobed; corolla lip-shaped, white or tube with reddish or purple, outer pilose; 4 stamens, inserted on corolla tube, 2 strong; pistil 1, carpel 2, ovary conical, 2 compartments after maturity, style linear, stigma 2-lobed. The capsule is four-sided and long cylindrical, dark brown when mature, and the calyx persists. The seeds are mostly black, light yellow or white; ovoid, flat on both sides. Flowering from May to September, fruiting from July to September.
