Description

Papaya tree bears many spherical or pear-shaped fruits clumped together near its top end of the trunk. They come in a variety of sizes ranging from 6–20 inches in length and 4–12 inches in diameter. Average-sized papaya weighs about a pound. The fruit is said to ripen when it yields to gentle thumb pressure, and its skin turned amber to an orange tint. The fruit is commonly spherical to cylindrical in form, is 75–500 mm or even more in length, and sometimes weighs as much as 9–11.5 kg (20–25.5 pounds). The very juicy flesh is deep yellow or orange to salmon-colored. Along the walls of the large central cavity are attached the numerous round, wrinkled black seeds.

Chemicial Composition 

It mainly contains malic acid, tartaric acid, citric acid, ascorbic acid, fumaric acid and saponins; it also contains potassium malate and oleanolic acid, chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, aconitic acid, flavonoids and tannins.
