Description

Griffonia simplicifolia is a Leguminous Shrub plant. It is native to Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Togo and other West African countries. Ghana seed plants can grow up to 2-3m in height with brown and smooth branches. In secondary forest areas, some of them grow on tall trees. The flowering period is from August to October. The flowers (hermaphrodite) are light green and bear fruit from December to February of the next year. The pod generally has 1-4 seeds. The mature seeds are oblong, about 1.5cm long and 1cm wide. The seed coat is black, wrinkled, and the endosperm is yellowish green with bean flavor.
