Description

Perennial herbs. The rhizome is stout and solid, with black surface, and a lot of sunken round hole like old stem remains. Stem erect, hollow. The lower stem leaf blade is triangular, 2-3 turns and 3 pinnate, the terminal leaflet is rhombic, the edge is serrate, the lateral leaflet has short petiole or sessile, slightly smaller than the terminal leaflet. Panicle, inflorescence axis and pedicel densely covered with gray or rusty glandular hairs and short hairs; flowers bisexual; sepals 5, obovate round, white or greenish white, staminodes in sepals, broadly elliptic, apically concave or 2-lobed, fertile stamens numerous; carpels 2-5, densely covered with gray hairs. The fruit is oblong, covered with appressed pubescence, with a 2-3 mm stalk at the base and a short beak at the top. The seeds are 3-8, elliptic, with all membranous lepidopters. The flowering period is from July to September and the fruiting period is from August to October.

 

Chemical Composition

It mainly contains cimicifugine, salicylic acid, resin, caffeic acid, isoferulic acid, ferulic acid, chestnut bark, caffeic acid, 25-o-acetyl-cimicifugol, cimicifugin, beishengmaning, cimicifugoside a, cimicifugoside C, erucic acid, etc.
