Description

Perennial fleshy parasitic herb, 30-60 cm high, brown-red whole plant. The stem is cylindrical, mostly buried in sand, slightly enlarged at the base, with alternate scales. The fleshy inflorescences are terminal, long terete, dark purple-red, and mixed flowers. The fruit is nut-like. The seeds have endosperm. Flowering from May to June, fruiting from August to September.
