Description

Fruiting body is on sclerotia, annual, flat and adnexal. The surface of the orifice is white and then turns to light brown; the orifice is polygonal to irregular; the germ tube is single-layer and white. The meat is white to cream yellow. The hyphae have no clavicular Union, and the spores are oval to cylindrical, smooth and colorless. The sclerotia is spherical, oval to irregular in size, and the larger one can be more than 30 cm in diameter. It is soft when fresh, hardens after drying, and has thick and wrinkled skin. The surface is brown to reddish brown, and turns black brown after drying. The sclerotia is powdery inside, light pink outside and white inside. The structure of mycelium is similar to that of fruiting body.            

 

Chemical Composition       

It contains triterpenoid carboxylic acids, including pachymic acid, tumoic acid, levulinic acid, songlingxinic acid, etc. it also contains polysaccharides, mainly pachyman, with the content up to 75%. After structural modification, pachyman with strong anti-tumor activity can be obtained. In addition, it also contains histidine, adenine, choline, β - pachymanase, protease, fatty acid, fat, lecithin, ergosterol, pororin, porinic acid, 3-hydrocortisonic acid, ergosterol-7,22-dien-3 β - ol, 7,9 (11) dehydro porinic acid, etc.
