Description
Annual herb with black glandular dots on each part of the plant. Stem erect, often branched, cylindrical, with 2 slender longitudinal ribs and nodes. Single leaf opposite, elliptic to linear, 1-2 cm long, 3-9 mm wide, apex obtuse, entire, base amplexicaul, scattered with transparent glandular dots, leaf margin with black glandular dots. The flowers are big and neat, yellow, sepals 5, sepals oblong or lanceolate, petals 5, longer than sepals, stamens many, anthers with black glandular dots, base connected into 3 bundles, ovary superior, style 3, separated, apical 5-lobed. Capsule with dorsal glandular strips and lateral and cystic glands, apex dehiscent, seeds numerous, cylindric. The flowering period is from June to July. The fruiting period is October.
Chemical Composition
The whole plant contains 10% tannins, acid hydrolysis produces floretin; the main components of volatile oil are pinene and sesquiterpene. It also contains vitamin C, carotene, rutin (2% in leaves, 0.095% in flowers), hyperoside, quercetin, quercetin, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, a small amount of saponins, and sitosterol. The roots and stems also contain decanal, lauric acid and mannitol.
