Description

It is an annual creeping herb, multi-branched, and the whole plant is pilose. Pinnate compound leaves alternate or opposite, with 5 to 7 pairs of lobules, oblong, 6 to 15 mm long and 2 to 5 mm wide, with stipules often skewed at the base. Flowers solitary in leaf axils; sepals 5; petals 5, yellow, early fall; stamens 10, 5 long and 5 short; ovary upper, 5-loculed, stigma 5-lobed. The fruit is composed of 4 to 5 lobes, each with a pair of long and short spines. Seed ovate triangle. Flowering from May to July, fruiting from July to September.

Chemical Composition

The fruits and leaves contain tribuloside, astragalin, kaempferol-3-rutinoside and kaempferol; and also contain alkaloids, a small amount of volatile oil and grease.
